HDcctv means no latency

If you have ever tried to follow a subject using a dome camera that is effected by latency then you will realize that in effect the latency issue renders the tracking feature useless. Up until recently IP had been the only way produce HD images so what happened if you wanted an HD  PTZ dome? Well the HD aspect was quite brilliant but the latency meant that guards tended to not use the manual control feature as the latency mean tracking became difficult if not impossible.

Then came HD SDI dome cameras. HD SDI is not effected by latency and the dome responds perfectly to the operator’s needs and as a result we are able to now offer a solution.

This is also true when reviewing recorded images over a network. IP has many benefits but again where there is latency there are problems. The solution of course is to up the bandwidth and reduce the frame rate and picture quality but does this then not defeat the the object of HD ?

Still as time goes by the latency issues of IP HD are being addressed. We soon expect that as networks become more efficient and sophisticated latency will start to reduce perhaps one day it will be un-noticable.

However until then HD SDI offers the solution to the latency issue and gives HD images to boot. Not bad for a technology that until three years ago was more or less unheard of.

Of course other advantages of HD SDI are more obvious , easy to install and understand, effectively its plug and play. In a world where installers are being squeezed from every angle a job that goes in well is likely to be a profitable job and that can make a huge difference to installing companies survival.

HDcctv is it finding its way into industry as analogue fades away

Is the future HDcctv ?

As time passes the demand for high def CCTV images increases at an expodential rate. Conventional opinion says that HD can only be achieved by using  IP cameras with Megapixel technology. As a result over protective IT managers within some companies believe that there technical constraints that prevent them adopting the use of HD cameras and recording.

In the past this has held back the growth of HD as a technology however an alternative technology where High Definition CCTV cameras are able to digitally transmit uncompressed HDTV video signals through conventional coaxial cable has meant that people are once again touting HDcctv. This means that HDcctv can be used to upgrading many existing CCTV installations to HD because there is existing coax already in place. This potentially represents a very cost effective means to provide high resolution images.

As a result there are now many manufacturers exploring the possibilties that HD SDi represents.

Highest-quality signals

HDcctv signals over coax has captured the imagination of the industry and has resulted as a force to be reckoned with so much so debate rages on twitter and linkin as to whats better HD SDi or HD IP of course in reality each technology has its place and both will be able to successfully compete along side each other and time moves forward and HD becomes the minimum requirement for a CCTV system.

“HDcctv is the best thing that ever happened for megapixel IP surveillance. So says Todd Rockoff of the HDcctv Alliance. The transition to IP surveillance is well under way, as a growing number of security customers manage video from PCs, tablets, and smart phones.

Rockoff goes on to raise questions regarding the quality of both live view and playback video transmitted from Megapixel IP cameras, which can be limited by the bandwidth of the local-site IP LAN.

The rationale for HDcctv is straightforward. The quality of stored video is fundamentally limited by the bandwidth between image sensor and image storage.

If the bandwidth available, is less than required to transmit the native video format, then some compromise is required either a reduced frame rate, reduced resolution, and/or reduced frame quality through the application of video compression techniques.

More bandwidth between sensor and disk means higher-quality video, all else being equal.

A local-site IP LAN hosting 16 MP IP cameras offers at most 1Gb/s total bandwidth, and much more commonly only 100Mb/s, to be shared among all 16 cameras and possibly other IT equipment.

By contrast, 16 HDcctv-compliant cameras deliver 100% digital video at an aggregate bandwidth of 24Gb/s.

In order to keep file sizes manageable, not every DVR stores unadulterated video from all channels at all times.

However, the DVR is capable of storing vastly higher-quality images when it matters, for example per schedule or on alarm.

HDcctv has been introduced in the US where is has been very well received – it is now becoming available in the UK and looks like being equally popular.”

Faces? you tell me your CCTV system can identify faces?

If you were buying a CCTV system today and we asked you what you would like to see on your recorded images  my bet is you would answer the following:

Faces

Number plates

What they took

How the accident happened

How much they put/took from the till

This is just 5 of the main things people expect to see from their CCTV systems and yet probably 90% of current CCTV systems can’t give you this information…….. But why?

For far too long now, businesses have put up with grainy CCTV images that just do not provide clear and useable images of events that can aid the customer in a way he could reasonably expect. When zoomed into, they often provide blurred, pixulated images with no identifiable detail and therefore these are completley useless.

Now though we have HD CCTV, this opens up a world of opportunity for those who require effective surveillance. HD cctv that can give you crystal clear images that can be zoomed into without losing clarity. This provides images that gave important identifiable information that will capture clear definable images as the happen and provide useful images that could be handed to the police and other agencies.

The influx of these HD cctv Cameras allows for an easier than ever way of capturing surveillance footage and storing it. Images can be stored and reviewd far more effectively than analogue footage stored on a DVR, with footage even available live streamed from remote wireless devices.

This ease in access has a variety of uses, such as monitoring employee productivity and fraud, time and motion studies, round the clock surveillance for your security personel.

Clever software that comes with HDcctv systems makes video searched more efficient, with thumbnail searches giving the end user the ability to quickly find what they are looking for, no more hours of searching through your DVR. With HD CCTV showing us the way why get left behind ensure you install HD next time you upgrade and avoid the analogue.

How HDcctv can help your business

When your company decides to invest in security, it is often CCTV that is considered first for your business, while you weigh up the pros and cons of the wide variation of systems on the market, the best possible technology and service is always the preference but will what for your money make your investment worthwhile.

Why Invest in HD CCTV?

Over the last 20 years or so anyone installing a CCTV system has had one real choice and that’s analogue. All too often we see poor quality images because people decide to buy cheap ,poor quality and this really defeats the object of a CCTV system in the first place a system that will provide little to no useful evidence. This will make it difficult to realistically use the captured images quite frankly a waste of everyone’s time.

In the case of  HD CCTV, this isn’t the case. The HD CCTV systems provide maximum clarity for minimum bandwidth. HDcctv technology allows the user the ability to capture unparalleled image detail, enabling the best chance of identifying people or watching processes within your organization. With more advanced HDcctv systems we can even find scene changes, missing objects and events much more easily and quickly.

Why is HD CCTV Better than Standard CCTV Cameras?

When it comes to prosecution or appealing to the public for information, HD CCTV provides the most useful form of evidence to present. Images are clear and can be zoomed in losing little clarity, cameras with up to 2 megapixels are the most popular although some cameras offer higher definition.

HDcctv images ensure you have information that you can see and trust. Meaning that your CCTV system is reliable when you need it and this makes it worth the investment.

HDcctv Surveillence is relevant for any business and provides the ability to accurately record a host of incidents including; theft, robbery, trespassing, accidents, injury and most importantly employee fraud. You won’t miss vital incidents with HDcctv cameras.

With the ability to see everything that’s going on, response can be swift and effective. If an accident occurs, you can get somebody to them as soon as possible. If a theft, assault or suspicious behaviour occurs, you are able to take the fastest and best course of action. Most HDcctv systems can also be viewed remotely via Android and Apple tablets and smartphones, this means your HD CCTV system can be viewed from any location.

HDcctv regulation

Andrew Rennison the new CCTV commissioner is government appointed. He has been putting his point across that he believes CCTV requires more regulation. He actually goes further than pondering more regulation and actually suggests that CCTV is “out of control” We are sure you will all agree this a  sweeping statement indeed!

So is CCTV out of control? This is a question also asked in the recent security briefing from IFSEC. References to the government backed legislation that seems to be pointing to far greater control over CCTV in public places is a highly contentious issue. We already have the data protection act and this has served us well over a number of years. Do we really need more CCTV regulation?

CCTV images of riotsCan we get a conviction from this kind of quality image?

CCTV by its very nature is always going to rile certain individuals and human rights groups. It has always been a mystery to us why but the fact that you can be caught committing a crime and taken to court as result of cameras seems to offend certain types. It seems that those going about their business in a normal way and actively steering away from anti-social activity, vandalism and theft are not those who seem to complain. Perhaps the reason is that CCTV is perceived as poor quality and on many occasions useless. It fails far too often to pick up vital clues such as facial recognition and number plates, simple things that would make all the difference to convictions as a result of CCTVimages.

We believe the reason that their is a fuss building now and more CCTV regulation being demanded is the quality of pictures are about to get a whole lot better. HDcctv and HD IP cameras are of such good quality that images captured are now irrefutable . Faces are easily recognized and number plates are captured. As a result more convictions are beginning to follow.

We have no issue with proper HDcctv regulation. It favours good installers who invest in training, accreditation and sell quality equipment. It helps our industry and it only hinders those who seek to take short cuts. We do though feel very strongly that if a camera is in place it should be fit for purpose and now the technology is available all cameras should be upgraded to an HDcctv standard image of at least HD quality. This will help the industry , reduce crime , increase convictions and lead to a safer environment for us all.
