Videcon VXH264 DVR

VXH 264 videconVidecon VXH264

The Videcon concept pro DVR series comes in 4,8, and 16 way versions. A
quick glance shows that it includes the following features as standard.

1) H.264 compression is a powerful compression engine that allows
anything up to 30% more footage to be stored on the DVR compared to
MPEG4.

2) As you would expect the VXH264 comes in 3 versions. 4,8,16 ways and Videcon
have made sure the new DVR will integrate seamlessly with other products
in Concept Pro range.

3) For enhanced on- screen operation and ease of use , the CCTV software
interface has a colour coded GUI. In addition to this the operator is able to use
a 24 hour single channel overview in the form of a panoramic search. This helps drill down an event into 3 hour periods and makes finding information very much easier.

4) To ensure a rapid response to events as they happen Videcon have
included an instant playback feature.Very handy if the operator has just witnessed an event and wishes to review it immediately.

5) 2 forms of remote connection are also available either through your
PC using an on screen web browser or alternatively from your smart
phone or iPhone. Apps are simple to download and very easy to use. This is something that we believe is always going to help sales.

6) Remote monitoring is possible using the VXH264-4 VX264-8 and the
VX264-16 .Each unit can connect to any professional monitoring station
that employees IMMIX software as its front end alarm handling software.
By using broadband as your primary path to the central station it is
quick cheap. The line can be monitored securely using Emizon giving you an
excellent overall package. With remote monitoring giving an on going
annual revenue stream it makes sense to push this option to end users.

videcon VXH DVR

In addition to the above the DVRs run a watchdog that will monitor the
health of the hard drive and log any faults that may be occurring. This
enables action to be taken before any footage is lost. We find the major
gripe customers have is when they need footage only to find that the
hard drive has failed. The Smart system check functions within the
VXH264 come in very handy in terms of preventing this.

Active audit trails; multiple archiving facilities and reserve data
management all help to sell this product on
merit. Add to this a smart search facility and a 3 year warranty and you
have a very tidy package here from a forward thinking company.

Software in CCTV – can it replace the control system and can it be chargeable?

More and more, software is becoming the heart of the CCTV System……..

In days of old, a system would have one control point, and if additional control points were required, the system practically needed replicating in order to provide additional controls to another point.

Come the age of the computer and now adding another control point is as easy as loading software onto a network enabled PC……..

Most DVRs these days come with free software that provides accessibility to stored images, live cameras and PTZ controls..

But an interesting surge in the market appears to be coming from the software only control systems – BMS style software that controls the full range of Security disciplines, including Fire, Intruder, Access Control and CCTV etc….

Honeywell are big leaders in this arena, but new products from the likes of ESSA and CNL offer interesting control angles on the control system

Milestone and IndigoVision are also big players in this industry area too………Milestone particularly have set their business model on the ‘licence per camera’ basis, allowing flexibility to expand the system without too much expense or inconvenience…….it’s an interesting idea – we are all used to paying subscriptions for software such as anti-virus programs, so to pay a fee on annual basis seems like a good way to ensure maintenance agreements are kept by linking the camera licences to subscriptions…….

Of course, some end users see the extra current premiums that IP allegedly imposes over SD (Standard Definition) CCTV as enough to pay let alone additional subscriptions for software………..but, as prices fall, then we think subscriptive CCTV is an interesting idea – potentially locking end users back into reliable installers via the maintenance/subscription model

Time will tell, but certainly there are massive advantages to the control systems being PC software based………

Vigilant CCTV systems the New kids on the block

We have been keeping an eye recently on an up and coming, home grown, good old UK based DVR and Hybrid/IP manufacturer…… Vigilant Systems, based in Somerset……

Unlike so many of the far eastern in-flux of DVR and NVR solutions, Vigilant Systems offer something quite unique!

Sure, their ‘engine’ is based on a Far Eastern software development – but we understand they have had considerable input to the ongoing development of the software, in a relationship they have had for a considerable period of time…..

But, their USP is that they assemble all the hardware here in the UK……that means the quality and reliability of the components are completely within their control….. they have their own assembly line and in-house Technical Support engineers and this UK time zone and UK language approach to the NVR/DVR market is refreshing……how many DVR suppliers can boast that they ACTUALLY make the units here, in the UK ??

Products ranging from small 4 & 8 channel right up to huge, scalable systems are available, backed by great software and very clever add-ons (keyboards, monitor walls, analytics, EPOS and analytics)…….. they’ve even worked hard to get their CCTV software into Central Stations of note to offer a complete Remote Managed solution too.

With HD and Megapixel cameras and a range of IP Encoders, Vigilant are another company that can offer a complete ‘system solution’

We think we will see more of Vigilant Systems in the near future…….
