Intersec Dubai news and reviews

Intersec is over for another year and the wonderful country of Dubai has waved off the hundreds of over sea Manufacturers and Distributors within our great Industry!

Intersec Dubai

I was looking to post daily, but 3G conspired against me and wifi within the show was well used shall we say!!!

But here goes…

Held in the wonderfully situated Dubai Convention and Exhibition Centre in the main Business sector of Dubai, the show was a very well laid out expo, held over several halls split into country zones. I liked this format and am sure those visiting with specific technology in mind would find this method an easy way to navigate what was an extremely large show

It seemed larger than our own UK based IFSEC expo based in Birmingham, and yet the halls and stands interconnected in a logical, Milton Keynes road structure way!

Notably, our Far Eastern friends find value in the Middle Eastern region, occupying large sections of the exhibitions in ‘China’, ‘Taiwan’ and ‘Korea’ sections – all showing a mixture of their latest Tech goodies including Megapixel cameras, NVR Software solutions and other ‘must have’ gadgets!

What was interesting was the distinct lack of HD-SDI solutions – HDCCTV in another name – and I can kind of understand why………

3G (despite my own woes) was prevalent EVERYWHERE in Dubai…….and this is mirrored throughout the Middle East. Our Arabian friends have embraced IP Technology, spending huge quantities of money developing envied high speed internet links throughout their regions……….visitors to any CCTV stands would always be heard asking ‘is that camera available in IP’

So, with such high acceptance and embrace of IP technology, why would they need HDCCTV?  I cannot argue against this on this occasion – the regions are developing from a relatively recent existence and therefore their ‘retro-fit’ market is much, much less than ours in the UK – if it’s new, it’s IP…..

I did spot an excellent gadget on the Cominet stand though!! a 3G HD-SDI Link to extend HDCCTV connectivity to upto 30Km !!!!! Nice!

So, with the focus on latest products & technology, here is a summary of the key exhibitors and their Intersec offering !
Cominet  – 3G hdsdi link 30km
CPPlus – a nice range of HD-SDI cameras and DVRs including a good looking  3MP Mini-dome

Norbain with their VIP Overt PTZ and Arecont ‘exclusive’ IP Product range.
Comnet showed a very nice PoE+ to provide power over copper to 1km.
Optex/Redwall had a very impressive stand with a PTZ Ganz unit to support their perimeter detection devices.
Hall 3 was set aside for more Integrator/Solution Provider presence relating to homeland security – One notable exhibitor was the Soncell Corporation including the Panoptech team.
Axxon from Russia showed their excellent BMS IP solution.
Bosch – IP all the way but only had one of their flagship MIC units on display !!
Axis IP air conditioned dome!! – yep, a dome with air conditioning on the side !!
Samsung  – interesting to see their inclusion into thermal imaging solutions and also their HDCCTV products!
Panasonic solar wireless CCTV – well, there is always an abundance of sun in the Middle East, good call Panasonic!
Videotec from Italy showed their PTZ positioning device – not the smallest but certainly very well made!
Genetic IP software to rival the Milestone revolution
UTC/Chubb showing their System Solution skills

and not forgetting……
Vivotek
Sony
FLIR
Honeywell
Mobitix

So, was it a success? in my opinion a resounding yes!

Well laid out, wonderfully positioned, excellent cross section of exhibitors, great facilities (catering, rest rooms etc) and with great travel options including the excellent Dubai Metro

In fact, probably the best Security Show currently available!

HD PTZ dome from Panasonic

HD PTZ dome

Panasonic have announced that have introduced their latest HD PTZ dome to the i-Pro range. The WV-SW396 is best suited for environments that require an HD PTZ dome solution for a harsh operating situation. Panasonic have suggested logistical operations or City centre schemes would find the WV-SW396 an enhancement or direct replacement for existing camera installations. The WV-SW396 has a 36x optical zoom and a 12x digital zoom. With an extra 72x extra optical zoom under VGA resolution. This camera really pushes the boundaries.

HD PTZ dome
The WV-SW396 camera also boast a sequenced alarm feature for advanced tracking and is IP66 rated, able to withstand temperature differentials of between -50 degrees C to + 50 degrees C . True day night and colour mode down to 0.5 LUX means grainy pictures are a thing of the past. The WV-SW396 is fully ONVIF compliant and includes automatic device discovery, video streaming and intelligence metadata.

Panasonic WJ-ND400 network video recorder

The WJ-ND400 is a network video recorder that  will allow up to 64 IP cameras to be connected to the unit. In addition Panasonic’s WJ-ND400 will allow both images and audio to be  recorded at the same time giving a high level of flexibility. As standard Panasonic have equipped the WJ-ND400 with 8 HDD slots. This allows expansion from the standard 500gig hard drive that comes out of the factory. In fact, in total the WJ-ND400 can be expanded up to an impressive 27TB,  ideal for large scale IP installations making it a real candidate for consideration when installing large data generating megapixel IP camera systems. A hot swap facility means that harddrives can be replaced without any interruption in the recording process.

panasonic WJ-ND400

The WJ-ND400 is oozing with features and benefits such as filtered searches, FTP transfer, alarm recording and e-mail notification to name but a few. Avanced search facilities mean movement within specified areas can be searched on as well as time and date and event searches. The WJ-ND400 is primarily an H.264 recorder but can accommodate MPEG-4 and JPEG.

Two NICs mean the recorder allows the client network to be separated from the camera network. This clever idea means the camera network performance is not affected by users monitoring the system. This is also an additional security measure. Cameras placed within a separate network means access can only be obtained through the NVR.

i-Pro network cameras are auto-sensed  by the WJ-ND400, meaning their IP addresses are easily detected. This really helps the engineer save time in setting up and configuring a large IP surveillance system.

The new Panasonic WJ-ND400 is a great example of an NVR that boasts both usability and reliability and caters for both users and engineers when looking at large scale IP CCTV surveillance systems.

Analogue CCTV cameras, still alive and kicking

Analogue CCTV cameras have kind of received some bad press recently. We have been guided by the big manufacturers over the last year or two and have been led to believe that analogue CCTV is a dead technology. Well it seems that the good old analogue CCTV cameras and DVRs are still very much alive and kicking. Why is this? Well its really all down to price. Analogue CCTV systems have remained stubbornly cheap in comparison to IP cameras recording onto an NVR. Of course we all know the benefits of IP surveillance systems. The clearer images, the ease of installation, dual streaming and so forth. However it appears that price is currently the overall driving factor and with DVR and analogue camera solutions from the Asian market becoming ever cheaper but including more features and functionality, IP camera solutions are making little headway at present.
This is outlined when you get the likes of March networks bringing out a New DVR to replace there 4000 series with a projected life span of 5 years this takes us up to 2016!! Something I doubt they anticipated having to do some 3 or 4 years ago. Panasonic released their iPro range in anticipation of exponential growth into IP video solutions but as we see below they are still pushing analogue products and we think this will continue now for at least another year.

Panasonic Analogue CCTV cameras and DVR solutions include the following but what sort of prices would you be expecting to be paying?

INCLUDING:

WJ-HL204 250GB DVR from £450
WV-CP290 Fixed Camera from £90
WV-CP280 Camera Bundle from £140
WV-CF284 Static Dome from £90

Panasonic WJ-HL204 DVR with 250GB on board storage is a 4-channel recorder with H.264 compression for all cameras. With the ability to add 3 drives that takes the unit up 3TB it would seem to offer all the the end user needs at present at a fraction of the cost of an IP solution.

WV-CP290

So what about the analogue camera solutions , well with High sensitivity and high resolution.

WV-CP290

The new Panasonic WV-CP290 CCTV Camera combines the very best features you would expect from Panasonic at the very best price. In addition fixed dome camera are always popular and the WV-CF284 is compact in design and boasts a varifocal lens, and easy mount brackets.

So as we can see lots of analogue CCTV cameras and DVR  products out there from the big name manufacturers. One day it will be…. but analogue CCTV is not dead just yet!

Lilin NVR…..new in the LILIN CCTV range

  • Lilin NVR range
  • Lilin NVR
  • The new LILIN NVR range  means they have expanded their range of network video recording solutions once again. The CMX CCTV software and the GVD range of HD NVR’s are capable of recording up to 32 megapixel IP camera streams and displaying these simultaneously.
