Video management systems from video IQ

VideoIQ, a leading producer of video surveillance IP camera solutions, has recently announced that it has formed a partnership with with Exacq Technologies. Exacq are a renowned supplier of top end Video management systems.

The integration between these two leading suppliers of Video surveillance products allows end users to benefit from VideoIQ’s award adaptive analytics embedded within every VideoIQ iCVR-HD camera, iCVR D1 dome camera and iCVR encoder.

VideoIQ cameras and encoders  are able to quickly and precisely  pinpoint security breaches, generating real-time alerts to customers enabling them to coordinate an effective response to crime as it happens. The camera’s advanced threat detection relies on VideoIQ’s patented adaptive analytics, capable of uniquely distinguishing people, vehicles and boats from other objects that would generally be associated with false alarms.

The “exacqVision” video management systems can be installed onto any server and it is scalable from a small single camera solution to large-scale corporate systems that may include thousands of cameras. Real-time and recorded video can be viewed, managed and configured from any location on the network.

The exacqVision video management system, coupled with VideoIQ’s analytics, provide a proactive and accurate surveillance system. With Exacq’s technology, the video management systems provide flexibility to blend VideoIQ and other IP camera systems, and to access video of events with web browsers and mobile devices. The video management system along with video IQ technology is a sure way to ensure the end user gets  exactly what they expect from a video surveillance system.

IP camera systems.Time to upgrade from analogue

IP camera systems  have long been the preferred upgrade path for the CCTV industry as whole. This is however a little behind schedule as far as we see it and mainly due to the reluctance of end users to waste the investment they have already ploughed into their analogue CCTV solutions. This is where the use of Hybrid CCTV solutions can gently push the industry into the area where they really want to go. IP camera systems have been around since around 1996.

Bandwidth and network capability have always been the factor that has slowed the move to IPCCTV however recent advancements in broadband speeds and network performance means that all possibilities are now very much in the frame. Security equipment manufacturers are however pushing harder for their kit to be totally all IP based .This is also backed by IMS research figures that predict a spending of 2.6 billion US dollars on ip video systems by the end of last year. Other limitations on the growth of IP camera solutions has been the global recession and an apathy towards IP CCTV training from entrenched CCTV installers. This will of course change as the price of IP video systems fall and the benefits become ever clearer. In the meantime however as we mentioned earlier Hybrid solutions will help ease us all into the IP surveillance way of thinking.

Why though has the transition to IP camera solutions and Video management systems been so slow? Well cheap imports have meant that many end users have decided to make do for the time being. With money tight in the UK spending on security has gone into reverse something that none of the IP camera manufacturers could have predicted when they planned their upgrade paths some 5 years ago. All is not lost though. The pure quality and flexibility that can be produced by HD cameras and now megapixel IP cameras mean that at some stage the tipping point will be reached.  IP camera systems will become cheaper and the natural progression to IP camera systems will start to snowball.

Avigilon

AVIGILON

At the end of 2004 the Avigilon storey begun. In just 6 years the company and products had evolved enough to be ranked in the Deloitte Technology fast 50 growing technology companies in Canada. An enormous percentage growth in revenues of 33,664% speaks volumes as to why Avigilon are ranked as one of the best success stories to come out of Canada in the last few years. In addition Avigilon was also named in Red Herring’s North American 100 list in 2010 as one of private industries most promising technology  ventures in North America.

We were lucky enough to speak to Avigilon and ask then what they thought the future holds for IP video surveillance and Megapixel IP camera solutions.

Panasonic IP video

Panasonic i-Pro smart HD.

Panasonic have recently unveiled a new division within its organization called PSNE or if you prefer the full version, Panasonic System Networks Europe. The new division formed in January of this year (2010) and is seen by many forward thinking in the CCTV industry as a very clever move.

Quite simply Panasonic have realized that CCTV as we know it today will look very different in the future. By recognising that the convergence of telecommunications, security and imaging products all needing to come under one portfolio, they have sent a message to the market place. They see  IP video systems integrating with various different edge devices including epos point of sale, industrial and medical cameras as well as home networking products as the way foward.

With this new focus on IP based technology they have produced some excellent network video cameras that are designed to suit just about every application. This has been named the i-Pro smartHD. This range of  IP cameras and monitoring systems means they can easily integrate older analogue products seamlessly with the new IP video based systems.

NVR’s within the new portfolio include the WJ-ND400, WJ-ND300A and the WJ-ND200 all the new equipment is of course ONVIF compliant.

Panasonic trail Axis now a very close second in the sale of IP Camera and ip video systems and see that although the market is still split 80% 20% heavily in favour of analogue camera solutions the trend towards network video systems is an irresistible force. This is now driving many CCTV camera manufacturers to look very closely at what Panasonic are able to achieve in this next year or two, especially as the CCTV market place is thought to be worth anything upwards of 350 million pounds this year.

With IT mangers now taking ownership of newly installed Network video systems the design of any IP video system needs to ensure that the ITC department is kept happy. Getting the IT manager on board as we all know is going to be half the battle when specifying IP surveillance systems however this is becoming easier, especially with Panasonic giving heavy behind the scenes support for its network of dealers.

To ensure Panasonic are able to get their message across to the general public they have invested heavily in the London 2012 Olympics so their famous catchphrase “ideas for life” will soon be ingrained in the thoughts of many installers and new customers who will inevitably start to migrate from analogue to IP camera solutions. Probably an awful lot sooner than they think!

International Security Exhibitions

We may be based in the UK, but we always like to follow some of the up and coming International Exhibitions!
