HD CCTV a new way to view high definition CCTV images

About HD CCTV

HD CCTV also known as high definition closed circuit television has evolved from broadcast technology developed to bring HD to our TV sets. The main difference between HD CCTV cameras and IP HD is that the Video is transmitted across existing or new coax in an uncompressed format this means that there it is a much purer video signal and one that does not need to be compressed just to send across TCP/IP network. The main benefits of HD CCTV and they way we are able to configure this type of system is that an HD CCTV camera can be plugged into an HD SDI DVR and video can be displayed without latency and and simple set up with no need for any IT training or software. HD CCTV brings all of the benefits of megapixel IP cameras but without the need to complicate and re-cable existing CCTV systems.

The beauty of  HD CCTV is it does not require any additional infrastructure just use the existing analogue CCTV coaxial cable that is already present. This makes it a highly attractive options for any company looking to maintain their investment but still enjoy the added benefits HD CCTV images can bring. HD CCTV is the perfect replacement for existing analogue CCTV and is both forward- and backward- compatible so there is no drawbacks to any company who wishes to enter the HD CCTV market place at their earliest opportunity.
So how much better is HD CCTV than analogue? Well HDcctv cameras deployed at 720P will provide almost three times the video resolution of analog CCTV, and once you use a 1080P camera you can produce six times the image quality. Add to this the fact that all HD CCTV systems are progressive, then we  eliminate any blurring that has in the past been a feature of conventional analogue CCTV systems.

So what are the major benefits of  HD CCTV compared to both analogue and IP CCTV

HD CCTV offers several advantages for the end user, compared to alternative ways of achieving high resolution.

Simple configuration with no training required
Video no longer needs to be compressed and reconstituted at the recording end.
HD CCTV is essentially plug and play and easily fits into existing infrastructure
reliable and robust
Clarity that allows more information to be recorded with less cameras
HD CCTV means no latency
Real-Time Speed Dome Control:
Simple cost effective a true upgrade from analogue without the fuss.

Here at HD CCTV solutions we believe that HD CCTV means upgrades and enhancement for existing analogue CCTV and this fantastic new technology is here to stay is here to stay.

HDcctv sees growth at IFSEC 2012

last year at IFSEC 2011  HD CCTV was very much a minority side show that attracted little or no attention from the vast majority of visitors who spent their time browsing the aisles for something new and exciting to sell. Apart from the Everfocus EPHD 08 NH HD cctv dvr there was nothing to speak of, although to be fair the Everfocus HD CCTV concept did attract a minority of people but we are not too sure they were taken seriously as a product/concept that would take off.

Move forward 12 months and it seems Everfocus were forward thinking prophets of the future. HD SDI CCTV was everywhere at IFSEC 2012. There were over a hundred different exhibitors showing their HD SDI range of CCTV products and this included big players such as Samsung and Grundig. Entrants of this caliber into the HD SDI market mean the technology has to be taken seriously now.

It was interesting talking to the guys who were showing their products. Many were members of the HDcctv alliance, a group who are trying to standardize HD SDI so each manufacturers products will work seamlessly with one another, something seen as crucial in order to promote HD SDI and compete against analogue .It was even more interesting that many exhibitors were not trying to compete with IP. Its seems there is now an acceptance that HDcctv is going to compete and replace analogue in the 4 to 16 camera market place. It seems interest in larger systems is going to be limited, leaving this totally different scene to the IP boys.

HD CCTV uses existing coax, and HD over coax is a tempting way to upgrade legacy systems. Its cheap, easy, produces great results with no latency and no need for compression. Any CCTV engineer can fit it without the need for IP skills and remote support. It’s simple and the pictures are stunning.

So if you are a customer who is thinking of upgrading to HD CCTV then you need look no further than HD SDI technology, it may yet  prove the best CCTV option for you and your company.

White light illuminator ,IR illuminator

White light illuminator, IR illuminator or even halogen lighting. Which ever form of lighting you chose to compliment your HD CCTV system it is crucial to consider your CCTV lighting plan with the same level of thought as you choose your HD SDI cameras and your recording solution.
An HD CCTV system without an White light illuminator is like a conductor without his orchestra. One needs the other.  Without lighting you will not see anything and colour is impossible to reproduce. HD CCTV is far more sensitive to light levels than analogue and installers need to let their customers know at point of sale. Don’t just hope ambient lighting will be sufficient. It wont!
In response to the obvious need for CCTV lighting many HD SDI camera manufacturers are including IR illuminator LED’s within their camera unit itself. Anything from 12-96 IR LED’s can be seen fitted to many HD SDI cameras now depending on the distance the installer is trying to achieve. These cameras work well and we would recommend them , however there is always a scenario where a White light illuminator will be needed, this is of course where colour images at night are important.
Here at HD CCTV solutions we stock one of the most robust range of white light and IR illuminators on the market. Manufactured in the UK, these tried and tested CCTV illuminators are ideal where an HD CCTV system is being deployed.
So think CCTV lighting when designing HD CCTV systems and think White light illuminator for colour IR illuminator for covert lighting , easy to install highly cost effective and efficient and a compliment to any CCTV system you are installing.

Benefits of HD CCTV over coax

The benefits of HD CCTV over coax are many. The introduction of HD-SDI cameras and recorders has seen a change in the way many companies are now influencing their customers to buy HD CCTV. IP is no longer the only option and in many cases now no longer the prefered option . We list below some of the benefits of HD SDi CCTV and see why some installers think HD SDI could change the industry as a whole.

Higher resolution is the primary benefit that is gained from HD SDI CCTV. HD-SDI cameras output full HD resolution images (1080p) but unlike IP this is done in real time. This means that HD SDI cameras  can give the end user as much five times the resolution of standard analogue cameras. HD-SDI DVRs are also capable of recording full HD. This means up to (1080p) Full HD resolution images. The primary benefit of this is that the end user will get real-time recording. HD CCTV has now already filled one one of the fundamental requirements of a CCTV system. Quality images that the end user can rely on.

Of course one of the main drawbacks of analogue CCTV is the amount of data that is sub standard. HD-SDI is an HD CCTV solution that provides video signals that are not compressed before transmission. This means that unlike IP there are no distortions within the captured image or frame rate interruptions. Zero latency can be achieved  because HD-SDI transmits a digitized video signal meaning no reduction in quality of the images which often occurs with analogue.

Perhaps the best news for the CCTV industry with the introduction of HD-SDI DVR s and HD CCTV cameras is that they can use an analogue infrastructure. In other words HD CCTV over coax. This makes them suitable for users looking to increase the quality of their current security systems. Why re-cable when HD CCTV can be achieved with little effort and lower costs that installing a new IP CCTV system?
HD CCTV cameras and DVRs are similar to standard definition cameras and DVRs in the way they need to be installed and do not require any additional specialist knowledge or skill. Re-training that has added a heavy burden on the CCTV industry is no longer required. HD-SDI is not prone to issues associated with IP network based video surveillance systems. The installer is no longer dependent on third party IT companies to install or allow access to IT networks. One of the biggest benefits being seen is that no IT or IP network knowledge is required and bandwidth requirements are a problem of the past. We are back to a simple CCTV installation.
