An interesting twist on Perimeter protection!

We became aware recently of a new, emerging technology in the Security Industry……….Radar

It’s not a new technology, but certainly new in our industry.

Is it expensive?

Well, yes…….but, you need to look beyond the capital outlay and see what it replaces…

historically, protecting a huge perimeter, such as that of an airport, would involve 10’s or even 100’s of sensors, whether beams or detectors, alarm or dedicated CCTV beams such as those from companies like Optex etc…..

but, one single Navtech Radar unit, placed centrally, can monitor movement in an 800m 360 degree zone………and link various zones to multiple cameras……controlling PTZ cameras such as MIC-400 from Bosch or the new and excellent 360 Vision Predator product, moving them automatically to moving objects and dynamically tracking as the object moves within the detection zone………

Offering a complete revolution of the mentioned 800m 360 degree view in ONE SECOND this represents a very different way to think of sensor detection.

We think this is a very exciting new product, there is defintely a cost increase, but we are prepared to bet that if installation costs and labour are factored in, there is very little in it!

Xtralis have recently produced a complete portfolio of their latest product information in preparation for the release of their new network video recorder/transmitter,  the Xtralis V3100.

Intelligent video solution.

The V3100 is an intelligent video solution incorporating some superb features and aimed at end users where secure transmission and recoding solutions are extremely important.The unit is capable of fast post-motion searching and can fully integrate to the Xtralis Access control package, the S3000. The V3100 is a hybrid unit and can be designed to suit the installation, to order. The unit can currently accept Axis IP cameras although other manufacturers IP cameras will soon be part of the overall suite.

The new era.

The V3100 is part of Xtralis’s march back into the market place after a little time in the wilderness. Historically we have seen them mainly as CCTV transmission specialists only they now have a DVR recording solution that can compete competitively with some of the more recognised leaders in high end spec DVRs. The portfolio consists of other products that compliment the new DVR. The first is V3001 IP digital matrix that enables images to be distributed from several sources to display screens, in addition we have the V3500 that enables unlimited storage, both on or off site. The management platform (CCTV software) is the M3000 command and control software and operates an open database for import and export purposes. It integrates fully to all the other products in the Xrtalis range.

Xtralis build these units to order in the heart of Europe, in spite of this  delivery times into the UK are exceptionally good. Another important development is that central stations are currently accepting the new units happily as one of the key benefits we see is that reliability and flexibility are at the heart of this product. With Xtralis however, this is something we have come to expect .

So as we have now seen, Xtralis have now built a portfolio of integrated security solutions that concentrate on proactive rather than reactive detection. The goal is to protect people and property by enabling remote sources to instigate a response to prevent damage before, rather than after a security breach, but now we have the recording solution and CCTV software packages to back this up.

 In the future, high risk buildings and important events will require a radical security solution to ensure any threat and  unauthorised entry is reduced to an absolute minimum. Access control integrated to CCTV and then  linked to biometrics is something we should all be expecting to confront in the future.Registration and submission of personnel data including finger prints prior to attendance will be common place.

 The whole integrated security solution gives an almost infallible confirmation that the person trying to gain access is indeed exactly who he /she says they are. This will become more and more important to be able to confirm as risks rise. Also however, as the technology gets more advanced and the speed of the system gets faster, this fairly restrictive access control solution actually becomes more palatable to the general public . Especially when at the end of the day it is the general public we are all trying to protect.

 It may sound like our liberties are being infringed upon and our patience very severely tested but with terrorists and criminals becoming more and more sophisticated pre -registration to gain access to many buildings and events will inevitably become  pre -requisite in the future. We have to learn to live with this and embrace the integrated security solutions that will hopefully  make all our lives safer.

What are the elements involved in a fully integrated CCTV system?  Starting with the a basic CCTV system we will always have the cameras , the DVR and the monitor. this is what people generally understand when they ask to have a CCTV system installed.

Lots of applications.

We can have an internal CCTV system, an external CCTV system or we can have a mixture of both. Until recently CCTV systems tended to be restricted to a fairly small number of cameras usually up to about 16. Of course there has always been a need on bigger sites for more cameras but there was always the restrictions. The number of frames per second per camera that a DVR could process for instance. The more FPS the more expensive the DVR tended to be to accommodate. Then of course we have the picture quality. Analogue CCTV cameras have always been restricted as to how many lines they can produce to make up the image we see on the screen.

Better picture quality.

Although cameras have advanced to allow more lines,  420 TVL would be typical for instance. It does not stop there, we are then restricted by the monitors and the picture quality they can produce . With the introduction of IP we now have the exciting development of HD CCTV and this means mega pixels and in turn a huge advance in picture quality that we can expect from our recorded images in the future.

Integrated CCTV solutions provide so much more.

Integrated CCTV systems though consist of more .They can be hybrid CCTV systems part analogue, part IP. They can be Integrated to access control systems and linked to central stations. They can be linked to external alarm systems. Sensors, fixed beams and so on to give us many different security solutions and the ability to generate alarms.

CCTV in the future.

Most integrated CCTV systems of the future however will be able to incorporate analytics to generate alarms. This could be used to warn of a terrorists threat such as abandoned luggage and suspicious behaviour etc. The CCTV systems can be integrated to ANPR software that will allow number plate recognition to control barriers and access control and the  police are able to track suspicious vehicles across the country by using this ANPR technology. CCTV systems can now integrate to biometric readers to allow faces to be linked to finger prints this offers companies a huge upgrade of security within their organisation.

In summary.

In summary CCTV systems on their own will be a thing of the past. Integrated security in its many forms is the way forward for the future. IP cameras and the improved picture quality they bring together with analytics and more flexibilty are just around the corner , things are moving fast!
