VCL dome repairs.

VCL were a company who were one of the great success stories of the late nineties and early part of this century. They were a British organisation who revolutionised the CCTV market with their orbital domes.

Takeover

Their success was soon recognised and take over was inevitable. First Ademco then Honeywell also profited from the success of the dome through aggressive take-overs. Buy dome spares

Honeywell however have fingers in many pies and the orb 6 and orb gold dome was eventually superseded with Honeywell’s own product lines, no surprise but a great shame. One thing however has over the last couple of years though has been neglected and that’s repairs of the domes themselves! The CCTV domes won’t last forever. They have moving parts and are of course vulnerable to wear and tear. Some large repair houses will take on refurbishments but Honeywell no longer support the product.

It is here that a great opportunity exists for companies willing to help out the tens of thousands of end users out there that still have VCL domes and still need them as part of their overall security package. 360 vision technology are one company that we have sourced that has cleverly taken advantage of what is going to be a very large market as the VCL domes reach the end of their life cycle.

The 360 dome inner

The 360 vision dome inner can be adapted to fit into the existing orb gold housing. This dramatically reduces the cost of an upgrade and often works out cheaper than actually trying to repair the old dome inner itself. The outer housings of the VCL dome are brilliantly robust and will go on working for years without needing any attention at all, so the smart businesses out there might find a cost effective solution with 360 vision technology.

Repair it!

Servicing a VCL dome can also be carried out by Maxey Moverley. This is a repair house that has  skilled staff to look after the inevitable rise in demand to fix what after all is a very good product, many years after its original conception.

An interesting twist on Perimeter protection!

We became aware recently of a new, emerging technology in the Security Industry……….Radar

It’s not a new technology, but certainly new in our industry.

Is it expensive?

Well, yes…….but, you need to look beyond the capital outlay and see what it replaces…

historically, protecting a huge perimeter, such as that of an airport, would involve 10’s or even 100’s of sensors, whether beams or detectors, alarm or dedicated CCTV beams such as those from companies like Optex etc…..

but, one single Navtech Radar unit, placed centrally, can monitor movement in an 800m 360 degree zone………and link various zones to multiple cameras……controlling PTZ cameras such as MIC-400 from Bosch or the new and excellent 360 Vision Predator product, moving them automatically to moving objects and dynamically tracking as the object moves within the detection zone………

Offering a complete revolution of the mentioned 800m 360 degree view in ONE SECOND this represents a very different way to think of sensor detection.

We think this is a very exciting new product, there is defintely a cost increase, but we are prepared to bet that if installation costs and labour are factored in, there is very little in it!

CCTV video analytics.

Video analytics has been a technology that has been talked about for a long time but at last it has  now finally arrived in a format that works reliably and achieves the results that will make customers keen to upgrade their legacy CCTV systems.

CCTV Alarms.

Used to alert the end user of an unusual event or an intrusion into a protected area it helps to give security managers a better insight to events and alarms occurring on their site. There are many types of events that can be raised to his attention and these include.

Advanced CCTV software.

Video analytics works by using advanced software to detect in real time changes within the view of the camera, far more advanced than motion detection, all analogue cameras currently in use in the UK can be converted to use this technology. It’s a simple process just install a unit called a codec. The codec is attached to the camera and behind the scenes converts all the video into a format that analyses events and through a set of clean contacts an alarm can be raised in a variety of different ways.

IP CCTV codec.

The codec is an IP device and is programmed through a laptop or if connected to a network it can be remotely administered. Xtralis, Bosch and March Networks all produce units that excel in video analytics.

Examples of where analytics can be used to great effect include ports and airports combating threats of terrorism especially identifying abandoned objects, Protecting classic art using analytics means museums can also benefit from this feature.

CCTV perimeter protection.

Perimeter protection is another area that has seen far better security thanks to trip wire features and the ability to detect movement in a certain direction. Integrating analytics with FLIR thermal imaging cameras is an excellent example of how a sensitive area during hours of total darkness can suddenly be secured where before this would have been impossible.

Codecs.

Setting up the codec’s is a relatively simple task. Perspective is important to ensure only the objects or human movements are detected and things such as wildlife are totally ignored. A great advance for the industry analytics are now being incorporated directly into the heads of cameras and the Predator camera from 360 vision is the first 360 dome camera that can deal with analytics while on a tour something of a dream for security guards who are tasked with monitoring large establishments or estates.

As the investment goes heavily into this technology from the big manufactures we see the number of applications increasing and soon analytics will be commonplace in many businesses across the UK
